Tour of California… a la spandex & science

Yet another reason why I love my job… I’ll be roadtripping with hot bicyclists and seeing the sunny state of Caliornia all while getting paid to talk to people about science and cycling. Radical.

Exploratorium Joins The AMGEN Tour of California, February 18-25
Explore the Unexpected Science Behind Bicycling and the Body
The Exploratorium announced plans to join Amgen at the 2007 AMGEN Tour of California, an eight-day, approximately 650-mile professional bicycle stage race, to present a collection of exhibits and demonstrations designed to reveal some of the unexpected science behind bicycling and provide insight into how the body works.

Funded by a grant from Amgen, the Exploratorium will join the Amgen Tour of California’s Lifestyle Festival at each of the race’s finish cities (San Francisco/February 18, Santa Rosa/February 19, Sacramento/February 20, San Jose/February 21, San Luis Obispo/February 22, Solvang/February 23, Santa Clarita/February 24 and Long Beach/February 25), and provide exhibits and demonstrations to attendees for free.

“Amgen is thrilled to have The Exploratorium join us this year along the Amgen Tour of California route,” said Jean Lim, Amgen director of corporate contributions. “As a biotechnology company that develops innovative and vital medicines to help millions of patients fight serious disease, it is important to us to help people learn how science works.”

The Exploratorium booth will include demonstrations and activities for all ages that show just how hard a pumping heart works, how to measure lung capacity, how much electricity pedaling a bike generates, and how to extract and study DNA.
